Guided London Walks

Silk Weavers of Spitalfields: artillery, tenter hooks & taffeta.
This walk through Spitalfields reveals an area famous for its markets, past and present. In the 17th century this was a centre for silk weaving and after long years of neglect, many of the old weavers’ houses have been restored to provide beautiful period homes. Find out why Nathaniel Bentley stopped washing, the purpose of ‘tenter hooks’ and the house where Queen Victoria’s silk Coronation dress was woven.
