After crossing over the highly esteemed Hammersmith Bridge, we follow the riverside path through woodland, passing the former home of the ‘Fat Scallywag’ and the wildfowl sanctuary at London Wetlands Centre. This land was once the home of Queen Elizabeth I’s spymaster, Francis Walsingham. A century later, Samuel Pepys came here “…to sup under the trees, by the water-side, which was mighty pleasant.”.
